In September 2022, Garuda Indonesia, the flag carrier of the Republic of Indonesia, selected IDT-SCS to carry out its UPRT training. Garuda Indonesia operates a fleet of Boeing 737, Airbus A330, and Boeing 777-300ER airplanes. It provides both international and domestic services.
IDT-SCS was selected because of its in-depth knowledge on the subject of UPRT, and its comprehensive program specific to each of these types. The company has also been supporting Garuda in developing appropriate changes to its OM-D TR Manuals to accurately reflect the implementation of UPRT.
The training of Garuda’s 14 SME instructors began with the two-day Ground School in Jakarta at the Garuda Indonesia academy. This was followed by simulator training in the Boeing 737NG and Airbus A330 devices. Boeing 777 training was carried out in Singapore.
Garuda instructors were taught each of the Module 1 & 2 exercises, including the method of assessment of a trainee. “The quality of UPRT is determined by the instructor”, according to IDT’s president Sunjoo Advani. “Combine a well-trained instructor with a good simulator and you can have a fantastic result. However, even if you have a fully upgraded, UPRT-compliant simulator combined with a less-trained instructor, then the result could be insufficient, and even unsatisfactory”.
The level of interest from the Garuda instructors was remarkable, and the devotion to quality very clear. IDT will continue to support the airline during the forthcoming years with UPRT implementation and quality assurance.
This program is also supported by IDT partner Starr Consulting Services.
