“UPRT Depends More on Instructor Quality Than Simulator Technology,” Says Dr. Sunjoo Advani
One of the key messages emphasized by Dr. Sunjoo Advani, President of IDT, in discussions surrounding the global implementation of Upset Prevention and Recovery Training (UPRT), is the critical role of instructor competency.
“A well-trained instructor using an average simulator can achieve significantly better outcomes than a poorly prepared instructor operating the most advanced training device,” explains Dr. Advani.
This perspective underscores the importance of focusing not only on equipment, but also—perhaps more importantly—on the knowledge, experience, and instructional skill of those delivering the training. As UPRT continues to gain prominence worldwide, ensuring instructional quality remains at the core of implementation efforts is essential for achieving lasting safety improvements.
The NOTAM podcast is based on an interview which Dr. Advani gave to Seth Moffat of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
